Congress prepares to weigh in on battle against Islamic State

COMMENTARY BY DR JOHN WORLDPEACE FOR PRESIDENT 2016

The Congress is about to consider the President's desire for authority to join the Islamic wars.

THIS IS A RELIGIOUS WAR WITHIN ISLAM WE ARE TALKING ABOUT..

I see three aspects of the ISIS, Al Quaeda, Taliban Islamic issue.

1) The majority of Muslims in the Middle East have been cut out of the economic progression of the world human society. This makes them subject to be recuited by the change these right wing religionist are offering.

2) The basic fight is between Sunnis and Shiites that are distributed in different percentages in the various countries in the Middle East. Which ever has the power in any state, tends to make second class citizens of the other. THIS IS AN INTERNAL RELIGIOUS WAR AT ITS FOUNDATION.

3) And there is the dynamic of radical right wing religionists and moderate religionists.

The United States cannot win that war. All we can do is waste money on war and kill our children.

You can put boots on the ground and with the superior firepower of the United States push ISIS out of any area. But the radicals will just go underground. THE MOVEMENT CANNOT BE STOPPED. JUST CONTROLLED. The Taliban is still very much alive and well.

These kinds of religious wars can go on for centuries and in fact this Sunni Shia war has gone on for over 1000 years.

There is nothing to win here. Just control. And all control does is extend this internal fight within Islam.

The Middle East is determined to set up Theocracies everywhere. And this includes Israel.

The best thing to do is just let it burn out.

This is a proxy religious wars where the power players make a lot of money selling weapons.

If we had a viable and just UN the world cold step in as one and bring peace. But the fight between Russia and the United States over influence in the Middle East means that every postitive proposal is going to be Vetoed by the US, France or England OR Russia supported by China. IN A WORD STALEMATE.

The Israel Palestine issue has gone on for 66 years with no resolution due to a dysfunctional UN. No resolution in site for that problem. The Sunni Shia war is far more wide ranging and complex.

All we can do is just keep tabs of what is going on and settle in for the next couple of hundreds years to the reality of the status quo. This is really a different form of WWI trench warfare that neither side can win.

We can go to Mars and land on a comet. But the world human society does not have the collective brain pan or the desire to end wars which are really good for the world economy as long as they stay localized. Making arms for use in far away lands has worked for a long time. The American Civil War was an economic boon for arms dealers. It set the template for Arms Dealers worldwide.

Nothing was learned from the Crusades.

Send in the drones as is necessary but keep our sons and daughters home.

Congress prepares to weigh in on battle against Islamic State

Susan Davis, USA TODAY 12:55 p.m. EST February 11, 2015

WASHINGTON —The White House sent Congress a formal request Wednesday for authorization for the use of military force to combat the Islamic State militants, citing threats the group poses to Iraq and Syria, stability in the region, and the national security of the United States.

The three-page resolution limits the use of U.S. military forces for "enduring offensive ground combat operations" and has a three-year sunset. The president must also report to Congress "at least" every six months on the progress of the fight.

The authorization would replace the 2002 authorization used to authorize the war in Iraq.

Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said his panel would schedule swift hearings on the AUMF. The White House has been working with lawmakers in both parties on the text of the authorization in order to build support. However, President Obama has maintained that he has the existing legal authority to conduct operations against the terror organization also known as ISIS or ISIL.

Corker and Senate Armed Services Chairman John McCain, R-Ariz., will lead a private discussion later today with Senate Republicans on the next steps.

"Voting to authorize the use of military force is one of the most important actions Congress can take, and while there will be differences, it is my hope that we will fulfill our constitutional responsibility, and in a bipartisan way, pass an authorization that allows us to confront this serious threat," Corker said.

House and Senate leaders said Tuesday that they expect debate and votes on the AUMF to dominate Congress' attention in the coming weeks, with floor votes likely in March.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on the Senate floor Wednesday "the Senate will review the president's request thoughtfully. Individual senators and committees of jurisdiction will review it carefully, and they'll listen closely to the advice of military commanders as they consider the best strategy for defeating ISIL."
