But he is not clear on Global Warming and Climate Change. Global Warming is the cause of Climate Change. Global Warming is the cause: Climate Change is the effect. Because the world is warming the climate in various areas is changing. More rain, less rain, more heat less cold, longer winters and longer summers. Many areas of the world are experiencing a change in climate due to the fact that the world is warming up mostly due to human actions like burning fossil fuels. Climate change is not causing global warming. Global warming is causing climate change. Nye recently appeared on MSNBC's The Reid Report on Monday to discuss about the snowy weather that has been hitting New England lately. The anchorwoman Joy Reid brought up an article in TIME by Eliana Dockterman criticizing Pat Sajak, the Wheel of Fortune host, for a misguided hint at the seeming dissonance of the freezing temperatures amid claims of global warming. Nye in response to it said that they should not confuse or interchange the terms climate change with global warming. He said both the terms have different meanings. Global warming the world is getting warmer but the term climate change is used when there is cold at some places, Nye said. And the thing that remains consistent with climate change models is the variance of where it’s cold, it’s warm, it’s cold, it’s warm. Then further during the show Nye appealed media outlets to use the words ‘climate change’ instead of ‘global warming’ while reporting on extreme weather patterns. Nye said, “What I would hope for, my dream Joy, is that you all, you in news business would just say climate change. Just like, it could be climate change. It's possible connection to climate change. Is this evidence of climate change?” Nye further during the show kept on criticizing how some conservative news organizations have ignored the topic of climate change. This was not for the first time that Nye has expressed his frustration over the media’s coverage of climate change. Earlier in 2011, Nye slammed Fox News anchor Rick Scott who claimed that volcanoes on the moon indicates that climate change is not happening. |
